A theatre school with branches in both Weymouth and Dorchester has won a national award for its high standard of performing arts teaching.
Razzamataz Weymouth and Dorchester was named the Razzamataz Franchise of the Year for 2023 in a national awards ceremony, with more than 60 schools eligible to participate.
The award recognises franchises and teams that go “above and beyond” in its efforts to provide the highest standard of performing arts education to young people.
Pip Wilkins, Chief Executive Officer at the British Franchise Association was the judge for this category and selected Lauren Bill, Principal of Razzamataz Weymouth and Dorchester, for the schools’ contributions to the local communities while embodying the values of Razzamataz.
He said: “Lauren has demonstrated a profound commitment to student opportunities by seamlessly integrating both West End and Broadway experiences into the curriculum, providing a well-rounded and enriching educational environment for all participants.”
Lauren shares how the award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of students involved.
“The most important part of all of this is the recognition for my students, and this Award proves how committed and hardworking they all are. It is an incredible honour to receive the Franchisee of the Year award and I am grateful for the support of my team, the Razzamataz network, and the communities of Weymouth and Dorchester.
Students at Weymouth and Dorchester attend Razzamataz every Saturday during term time with ages ranging from just two up to 18. Each week they attend singing, dance and drama classes and experience a range of styles from traditional West End musical theatre to the commercial styles of pop singing and street dance.
