Firefighters were called to a suspected car fire yesterday afternoon resulting in a heavy build up of traffic near Corfe Castle.
At 2.17pm Swanage Fire Station rushed to what they suspected was a car fire on the A351 near the Norden roundabout.
Upon arrival, it became clear to the fire crew that it was a false alarm and that the car had simply broken down.
Dorset Police also attended to assist with the traffic management as the car was moved to a safe location.
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service Said: "One appliance was mobilised to a car fire near Norden roundabout at 2.17pm.
"We were called to a vehicle fire, but it was a false alarm as it was a breakdown and not a fire.
"Police attended for traffic management and no action was taken.
"This caused quite a bit of traffic in both directions so we quickly made the car safe and pushed the car a few hundred metres up the road to a safe place."
