A community event designed to help local groups network in Weymouth has been hailed a success.
Weymouth Town Council held its second Community Networking Event at Castle Cove Sailing Club.
Around 50 people from voluntary and community groups attended the event which started with an informal networking opportunity to find out what services and projects people run for local residents.
The theme for this event was social media and marketing, with the communications team from Weymouth Town Council which delivered a presentation to help local organisations with their own communications throughout Weymouth and the surrounding area.
Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Kate Wheller, spoke to the attendees.
She said: “What a fantastic turnout. It is lovely to see so many people here from various organisations that go above and beyond to help communities in Weymouth.
"Weymouth Town Council is a community-focused council, and so it is a pleasure to connect with you all, you are the beating hearts of our community, dedicated to serving residents and delivering exceptional services.”
People attended from organisations including NHS Dorset, Age UK South West, The Friendly Food Club, Dog Friendly Social, Help And Kindness, Park Community Centre, Dorset Mental Health Forum, The Sanctuary Crisis Intervention Hub CIC, Cycling Without Age, Hangers Heroes, Repair Cafe Weymouth, Samaritans, Dorset Blind Association, Weymouth Lifeboat Fundraising, Chesil Radio, Weymouth Climate Hub and so many more.
After the event, some of these groups took to social media to express their thanks to the council for organising the event:
Dog Friendly social said: “Thank you, it was a magnificent event. You’ve inspired and shared information which I’m going to use to create content. I would recommend this to all community organisations.”
Hangers Heroes added: “Thank you for this great event with some very useful information regarding Social Media. We enjoyed talking to other people about the work they do in our community, looking forward to the next one.”
Whilst the Repair Café in Weymouth said: “Great that you managed to get so many of our lovely community organisations together.”
The next Community Networking Event is on Tuesday, April 23 in the Council Chamber at The New Town Hall on Commercial Road.
The theme will be centred around volunteering and recruitment.
