Residents are delighted that roadworks - which have been causing significant delays - are set to end.
Two-way temporary traffic lights have been in place on Littlemoor Road, Weymouth for weeks as engineers from SGN work to repair a 30-metre stretch of damaged gas main.
The works have been going on, between the Louviers Road and Turnstone Close junctions of the main route, since the period between Christmas and New Year. The pipe was damaged by a 'third party' according to SGN.
SGN originally said that it hopes to have the work completed by Friday and in a later statement, early this week. A spokesperson has now confirmed that the road is planned to be back to normal today - Wednesday.
Dorset Council Councillor for Preston and Littlemoor, Louie O'Leary said: "I think I can speak on behalf of everyone that I am glad it's ending.
"I hope they leave the road in the same state they found it, if not better.
"It has been a nuisance for a lot of people, particularly in rush hour. It was obviously a major piece of work and we are just glad it's finished."
Littlemoor resident Sam Jones has to drive through the roadworks area both to drop her child off at school and then again when she goes to work.
She said: "On a bad day it will add at least 15 to 20 minutes to my commute.
"I am extremely happy to see them end."
Waseem Hanif, spokesperson for gas distribution company SGN, said on Tuesday: "We successfully replaced a 30-metre section of our gas network in Littlemoor Road, Weymouth, on Friday, January 19.
"For safety, temporary two-way traffic lights remain in place in Littlemoor Road, between its junctions with Louviers Road and Turnstone Close. The lights are needed so we can finish safely restoring the road surface before the road can reopen.
"All going well, we'll be able to reopen the road as normal on Wednesday, January 24.
"We'd like to thank Weymouth residents and motorists for your continued patience and support throughout this work."
