A recent survey has named Dorset residents as the most eco-conscious county in the South Coast region.

Housebuilder Barratt Homes conducted a survey of 1,000 homeowners from across the south coast to find out how much of a priority sustainability was for homeowners across the region.

When asked how aware they were of the importance of sustainability on climate change, 38% of respondents in Dorset said they were ‘very aware’, which compared to just 32% in Hampshire and 31% in West Sussex.

Findings also revealed that 55% said they recycle every day compared to 53% in Hampshire and 50% in West Sussex. When asked if they make sustainable choices to reduce their carbon footprint, 41% of Dorset residents agreed compared to 40% in Hampshire, and 37% in West Sussex.

Tammy Bishop, Barratt Homes Sales Director, said: “We are continually building sustainable practices into everything we do and providing homes for our customers which are better for the planet as well as better for their pockets. It’s interesting to see which homeowners in the region are more aware of the impact that this, and other eco-friendly practices, have on the planet.

“We can all make small changes to our lifestyles to help take action on climate change and it’s fantastic to know that many people across the south coast are already doing their bit.”

The survey was conducted in the lead up to Big Energy Saving Week – January 17 to 23 - an annual campaign in the UK aimed at raising awareness around energy efficiency, reducing energy bills, and combating fuel poverty.
