A man and his friend will be doing a charity run around Weymouth in honour of his dad who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s last year.
David Lloyd, 34, from Weymouth, will be running 48 miles with his friend Lee Beardmore, 44 , to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Mr Lloyd is fundraising for a cause dear to him as his dad Frank Lloyd was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in November last year.
He said: “It’s a cause really close to my heart which is why I want to do it.
"I’d be appreciative of anyone who donates to the charity as the money goes towards life saving research and hopefully one day, we’ll find a cure.”
The friends will be tackling the David Goggins 4x4x48 Challenge, starting midday on Friday, February 16, which will see them run four miles, every four hours, for 48 hours.
They aim to break up their journey by running from Café Oasis to Weymouth Pavilion and back, finishing the journey off with some celebratory drinks at the Duke of Cornwall pub on Sunday.
Mr Lloyd encouraged his friend to join the challenge as a healthy way to kick start the new year and the pair have undergone strict physical training to prepare for the run.
He said: “We’ve been doing plenty of runs, healthy eating, no alcohol, swimming, going to gym hit classes. Training is going well. We’ve been running four miles every other day, but we will be going up to six miles. Then before we do our challenge we’ll do four miles in the morning, midday, and evening to build up endurance.”
He remains motivated through the tough training leading up to the big day with the strong words of encouragement from his father.
“He thinks I am mad. But he’s very proud and very supportive. He really wants to see us both accomplish the tough goal we set out for ourselves.”
A Crowdfunding page has been set up with a current target of £1,000. So far over £600 has been raised for their chosen charity.
