FIVE Dorset drivers have admitted drink driving offences after being caught in a Christmas crackdown.

Dorset Police ran a campaign targeting drink and drug drivers between Friday, December 1 and Monday January 1, targeting people who were driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

During this time, police arrested 113 people in connection with 127 suspected drink and drug driving offences.

Of those, five have appeared before Weymouth Magistrates' Court and pleaded guilty to drink driving.

Derek Palmer, aged 63, of Seymer Road in Swanage, was charged with driving a motor vehicle over the limit on Friday, December 1.

He was caught by police after driving his Jaguar XJ8 on Durlston Road in Swanage.

He pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in his breath was 59 microgrammes in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates gave him a 16-month driving ban. He was fined £253, ordered to pay £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £101.

Justin Butler, aged 49, of Fernhill Avenue in Weymouth was also charged with driving a motor vehicle over the limit on Saturday, December 2.

He was caught driving nearly three times over the legal limit on Dorchester Road in Weymouth.

He pleaded guilty driving a motor vehicle after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in his breath was 103 microgrammes in 100ml of breath.

Butler was disqualified from driving for 24 months and fined £317. He was also ordered to pay £85 in costs and a victim surcharge of £127.

Joel Gladwish-Travers, aged 27, of Lorton Road in Upwey appeared before Weymouth Magistrates, charged with driving nearly double the legal limit on Thursday, December 21.

He pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in his breath was 65 microgrammes in 100ml of breath.

He was fined £400 and banned from driving for 18 months. He was also ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a victim surcharge of £160.

Additionally, 44-year-old Harriet Tory of Throop near Dorchester and 63-year-old Lawrence Hulbert of Dorset Close in Weymouth both pleaded guilty to driving over the legal limit.

Tory was caught driving over three times over the legal limit on the A35 Dorchester Bypass on Tuesday, December 12.

She pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in his breath was 115 microgrammes in 100ml of breath.

Hulbert was caught drink driving on Great George Street in Weymouth on Thursday, December 14.

He pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in his breath was 76 microgrammes in 100ml of breath.

Both will be sentenced next month.
