A dance group from a school in Dorchester hosted a workshop at a Weymouth academy to inspire performing arts students.
A group of four Year 12 dance students at the Thomas Hardye School came to facilitate a workshop to 20 performing arts students from Years 10 and 11 at Wey Valley Academy.
The session was organised by Carly Reader from the Dance department at Thomas Hardye School.
She said: "It is important for the Thomas Hardye School department to build links with other schools in the area, therefore the dance department took our Year 12 A level dance students to Wey Valley Academy to deliver a jazz dance workshop.
"Jazz dance style is studied at A Level, and it was great to give Year 10 and 11 students a taste of what A level dance is like and what Thomas Hardye sixth form can offer. All students worked really hard and had a positive experience."
The Sixth Form students are studying A-Level dance and came to give a taster for what it would be like studying dance at A-Level. The session looked specially at jazz and contemporary dance.
One student said: “I thought the workshop was imaginative and this has taught me different methods and techniques within this genre.”
Another said: “This workshop has taught me about what it is like to study at A-Level.”
Mr Chutter, Head of Performing Arts and Teaching and Learning Lead, said: “It was inspiring to see our students being taught in the studio in understanding a new jazz dance.
“My thanks to Carly Reader and the students for such a wonderful morning of dance - it has really inspired our students to think about their post-16 options.”
