A man has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault on a taxi driver.

The driver, a man in his 40s, suffered minor facial injuries and was taken to hospital according to police.

It is alleged that he was attacked by another man he had picked up from an address in Cambridge Road, Dorchester.

The attacker fled in the direction of the town centre.

Following enquiries, a 21-year-old man from Weymouth has been arrested in connection with the incident. He has been released on police bail as the investigation continues.

Dorset Police officers investigating the alleged assault are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

The attack is reported to have happened at 6.30pm on Christmas Day - but police have only just released the information.

Police Constable Mia-Isabella Bowditch, of Weymouth police, said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area at this time and has information about what happened to please come forward.

“Furthermore, I would ask any residents of the area to please review the recordings on their doorbell cameras or home CCTV systems to see if they have captured anything of relevance that can help us with our enquiries.”
