A town council in Dorset is asking people to nominate charities of their choice to appear on a beloved landmark.
Weymouth Town Council is asking people to nominate local charities to be recognised by the Jubilee Clock light up scheme.
In 2024 the council will be lighting up Weymouth’s Jubilee Clock to raise awareness for good causes with the colours that best represent the chosen charities.
One charity can be represented per month, with the clock being lit for up to three days during the month.
In 2023, the clock face was illuminated on several occasions in support of charities and awareness days nominated by the public.
In July the RNLI was shown support, whilst in August the Lexi May Trust was chosen. September saw the clock light up for C’Ciders Cancer Support Group and in October the Weymouth Rotary Club was chosen.
Weldmar Hospice and the Nest in Weymouth rounded off the clock’s illuminative displays last year, appearing in November and December respectively.
Nominations must be received by midday on Friday, January 20. The full list of nominations will then be considered by the Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Kate Wheller.
Cllr Wheller said: “This is a great opportunity to tell us which local charity or organisation you would like us to raise awareness of in 2024 by lighting up the Jubilee Clock.
"This is such a great initiative that the council runs to shine a light on some amazing organisations that run across Weymouth. So, please get your nominations in by midday on Friday 20th January.”
Residents can nominate any local charity or organisation that benefits Weymouth and its different communities by completing a short form online at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/B9HJWXK
