A STRETCH of the A35 between Dorchester and Bridport has been closed due to a serious crash.

Travel Dorset states that the A35 Dorchester Road is closed both ways from the Littlebredy turn off (Winterbourne Abbas) to West Compton turn off (Litton Cheney).

Emergency services, including fire crews from Dorchester and Bridport, are at the scene, near Kingston Russell.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The road will be closed for some time so please avoid the area.”

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "Emergency services are currently attending the scene of a serious road traffic collision on the A35 near Kingston Russell and road closures have been put in place between Dorchester and Bridport.

"Motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible and we would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures are in place."
