Flooding could be possible for areas in Dorset after the Environment Agency issued alerts on local rivers.
The River Frome, River Piddle and their tributaries have been issued with a flood alert from Tuesday, December 26 meaning that flooding in the area 'is possible.'
Heavy rain has hit the county after the Christmas weekend, causing the alerts to be triggered.
Flooding in the River Frome area is forecast to affect low lying land near the Lower Dorset Frome, particularly between Dorchester and Wareham.
Levels at the East Stoke gauge and Stinsford gauge remain high, but are slowly falling, meaning that the alert is likely to remain in force until Thursday, December 28.
Elsewhere, recent rainfall and contributions to the river flow from groundwater levels has seen a flood alert issued for the River Piddle.
Flooding at the river is possible between Alton Pancreas and Wareham. Water levels around Wareham have today (Wednesday, December 27) reached 1.05m.
Despite the alerts, a spokesperson for the Environment Agency said the risk of flooding through to Monday, January 1 remains ‘very low.’
The Environment Agency are continuing to monitor the rainfall and river levels, but have advised against using low lying footpaths and any bridges near watercourses.
