A second man has been arrested in connection with a disturbance in Weymouth which reportedly saw members of the public threatened with knives. 

The incident happened at around 3.10am on Sunday, December 3, when officers were called to reports of a group of people walking around the town provoking fights and assaulting members of the public.

During the incident  it was reported that that the driver of a Citroen was threatened in Park Street car park by two individuals who were reported to be carrying knives.

According to police, it was reported that during the incident two women sustained minor injuries.

A 20-year-old local man was previously arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of a bladed article with intent to cause fear of violence.

Following further enquiries by detectives from Dorset County CID, another 20-year-old Weymouth man has been arrested on suspicion of threatening a person with a bladed article in a public place, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

Both men have been released on police bail as further enquires are carried out.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to the incident to come forward and are keen to identify the driver of the Citroen who was reportedly threatened, as well as an elderly man who was in the area and was approached, and a Good Samaritan who tried to intervene.
