A local business is offering free training for local schools on how to safely access local beaches for school trips and extracurricular activities.
Outdoor education provider Adventure 4 All is planning to release a new range of water-based sessions aimed at schools and community groups.
By working closely with community providers over the next 12 months, they hope to assist in broadening the opportunities for our young people and provide better access to on and around water activity.
Adventure 4 All will deliver the RLSS National Water Safety Management training course for free although spaces are limited and those attending will need to purchase their completion certificate from the RLSS.
It is currently scheduled for February 29, 2024 and will last a full day, plus a couple of hours pre-study.
Participants will learn about making sensible choices, managing groups in and around coastal water and basic rescue procedures such as using a throw line. Upon completion, school staff will be qualified to take groups on simple activities such as paddling or crabbing.
Alex Sergison, Director of Adventure 4 All, said: "We are incredibly lucky to live here on the South Coast. For me growing up on Portland revolved around copious amounts of time in and around the water.
“Now with two young children myself it has been a real eye opener to realise that not all children benefit from this time. We hope that offering training to schools might enable more classes to visit our beaches as part of everyday school life."
