Doorstep sellers have provided illegal works at a Portland couple's home.

Two men arrived at a Portland property yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, November 28), offering tree works and after a brief conversation with the homeowners on their doorstep, they undertook the works immediately.

Portland Neighbourhood Police Team are now ‘reminding local residents be vigilant of doorstep selling’ as this is not allowed.

After a conversation with officers, the 'tree surgeons' decided to leave the area.

Police are also passing on the men’s details to trading standards.

A spokesperson for Weymouth and Portland Police said: “Portland Neighbourhood Police Team would like to remind local residents to be vigilant of Doorstep Selling.

“This afternoon, we attended a couples address on the island. They had two men arrive on the doorstep offering tree work. They undertook the work immediately, after a brief conversation on the doorstep. This is not allowed.

“After a conversation, with members of our team, the tree surgeons, decided to leave the area.

“We will be passing on our information to trading standards.”

When door to door selling, businesses must provide a large amount of information to the customer, including their business name, contact details and address, a description of their goods or services and a reminder that any goods must be of reasonable quality and as described, the total price or how this will be calculated as well as how a customer can pay.
