Urgent pothole repairs are causing heavier than normal traffic and delays along the A354 at Monkton Hill.
The repairs are creating disruption between the football ground roundabout in Dorchester and the Jurassic Roundabout in Upwey.
Traffic is affected in both directions as temporary traffic lights have been set up whilst the works take place.
The work has been on going since 9.30am this morning and is not expected to be finished until 3.30pm.
Traffic alerts were not issued until 1.14pm when traffic started to become heavier than usual.
A Dorset Council spokesperson said: "Urgent pothole repair works today at Monkton Hill started today at 9.30am. Temporary lights will be in operation, expected to finish by 3.30pm today. Expect delays."
