A screenplay based on a novel by a Dorset writer has been published.
Dorchester writer Devina Symes’ novel, Stronghold of Happiness, captures life in Dorset during the Second World War following the traumatic experiences of couple Peter and Ella Samways. When their love story gets turned into a play by a local college, the couple find unexpected catharsis in reliving their story as well as the traumatic events that unfold.
It has already been made into a play, most recently performed at the Corn Exchange in late September, but now the author wants to see it on the big screen.
Publisher Tim Saunders said: “It’s a gripping story and apart from the well-researched history and a sprinkling of romance, there’s also a very strong message about how women can overcome abuse.
“Overall, it’s a good news story and we need more of those. I shall be targeting selected television and film production companies.”
