CAMPAIGNERS are set to host a rally for Palestine in Dorchester today.

The event has been organised by the Dorchester Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) which recently arranged to take coaches of Dorset locals to a demonstration in London on November 11.

Crowds will gather at the Town Pump, Cornhill in Dorchester between 12pm and 2pm to show their support for a ceasefire in Palestine.

Rob Ferguson is a retired sixth-form teacher who moved from East London to Dorchester and is the Acting Covenor of Dorset PSC.

He said: "There are events every weekend to show solidarity with the people of Palestine.

"Today there will be over 100 events around the country calling for a ceasefire.

"These demonstrations will continue for the foreseeable future.

"Next Saturday there will be another national demonstration and it could be even bigger than the last one.

"I would think around 200 people may attend but it could be more."

The demonstration comes after MPs in the House of Commons voted against a ceasefire on Thursday.

Mr Ferguson said: "I think it is absolutely shocking and it is sending huge tremors across society.

"Many of us feel there is becoming a huge gulf between society and the political establishment."
