URGENT works to repair a water mains leak on the Weymouth Relief Road have caused huge delays to traffic.
Wessex Water is responding to a mains leak on the A354 under urgent work.
Roadworks have been put in place on the northbound carriageway at Monkton Hill, causing delays to traffic in both directions.
A witness said: "It was absolute chaos.
"It was a pretty frustrating experience, especially as this area has had the same thing in previous months.
"I was worried if I would be able to make it to work on time.
"Tempers flared as some people seemed to be very frustrated with the delays, people were blocking the roundabout and blasting their horns.
"I have never seen the road blocked off that far."
A Wessex Water spokesperson said: “We’re carrying out emergency leak repairs at Monkton Hill, with temporary two-way lights in operation so we can work quickly and safely. We’re very sorry for the traffic delays this has caused.”
At 12.20pm Wessex Water confirmed the traffic lights had been removed and the road had been cleared.
