Five people were rescued by coastguards after their vessel suffered engine failure early in the morning.

Coastguards from Weymouth and Wyke, as well as Weymouth lifeboats, were called to the incident around 6am this morning, Tuesday, November 14.

A sailing vessel with five people on board was anchored outside Weymouth Harbour following engine failure.

The volunteer inshore lifeboat crew at Weymouth brought the vessel safely into the harbour with support from Wyke Coastguard CRT.

After the boat was secured, welfare and safety checks were carried out before the crews stood down.

A spokesperson from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: "Wyke Regis Coastguard Rescue Team and Weymouth RNLI lifeboat were sent to help a sailing vessel suffering from reported engine failure outside of Weymouth Harbour shortly after 6am today (14 November).

"The vessel was towed by the lifeboat to Weymouth Harbour office. Survey and Inspection and Weymouth Harbour were informed."
