Roadworks in Weymouth that have been delayed for two months start tonight.

A stretch of Dorchester Road near Morrisons will be closed overnight for up to five days this week as maintenance repairs and surfacing are undertaken by Dorset Council.

The road between the junctions of Spa Road and Icen Road will be closed from 8pm until 6am the following morning as the works take place. A diversion route will be signed.

These roadworks were planned for September but were delayed to allow for resources to install new cables and sensors to become available in order to prevent further disruption.

Despite the council issuing a notice stating the road closure will last for five nights, it is expected that works will be completed on Thursday, November 16.

The road closure is needed to comply with health and safety regulations which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise likelihood of danger to highway users.

A temporary clearway will also be imposed in the same area of Dorchester Road to prevent parking.

Any vehicle breaking these restrictions may be removed.
