A Dorset garden centre is dedicating the month of November to raise money for teenagers with cancer.

Dobbies Garden Centre in Owermoigne will be hosting a series of activities across the month that will culminate in a festive shopping night on Thursday, November 30.

Its Christmas Shopping Night will run from 5pm until 9pm on that date and is aimed at raising awareness and vital funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Alongside the evening of festive shopping there will be donation weekends throughout the month, whilst a social media takeover took place on November 2.

Dobbies’ community communications executive, Chloë Bell, said: “Our late-night shopping event in Galton is a great chance to gather the family, get into the festive spirit and support a charity that’s making such a difference to teenagers and young adults across the UK.

“Last year our fundraising efforts saw over £100k donated to the charity, and we’re hoping to top this benchmark with the help of our customers.”

Customers will be able to explore the centre’s new Christmas themes for 2023, immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere, and take part in fundraising activities on the night.

Cancer kills more teenagers and young adults in the UK than any other, and for those that are lucky enough to survive, getting the right physical and emotional support is vital for recovery.

Every day, seven young people aged 13-24 are told they have cancer, and it’s projected that by 2030 this number will be closer to 10.

The donations will help to fund specialist nurses and youth workers to be there for a young person that’s battling cancer.

Donna Bednarek, senior relationship manager for Teenage Cancer Trust, added: “Dobbies’ Christmas Shopping Night is a memorable occasion and one our team, supporters and volunteers look forward to every year.

“It’s a great chance for communities to get together, share a magical experience and raise vital funds to help us deliver life-changing work to teenagers and young adults battling cancer.”

Tickets for the Christmas Shopping Night are £1 per person and are available in-store or online. All funds raised from the evening will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust
