Strange lights from a satellite were seen over the skies of Dorset, with some residents suggesting they had seen a UFO.

One resident said they were driving along the A31 to the east of Bere Regis with two other passengers and saw ‘10-15 lights moving in a column’ at 7.45pm on Sunday, October 22.

They said: “I have never seen anything like that.”

Another witness saw the goings on called the lights in the sky ‘strange.’

Jim Daniels from North Dorset said: “I was surprised to say the least and was a little eerie as they just made their way across the sky and then just disappeared as quickly as they appeared.”

He quickly got out his phone to record the bizarre phenomenon in the sky. The video shows the lights from the satellite pulsing up above for around 30 seconds before they seemed to vanish.

There is a reasonable explanation for the sightings that don’t link to a UFO, which is Elon Musk’s SpaceX Starlink satellite.

The constellation consists of more than 5,000 smaller satellites as of August. The technology is being used as part of the UK Government's trial to connect rural isolated homes for better internet access.

Mr Daniels checked online to see it was the satellite, but joked: “Saw they appeared to be linked to the Starlink programme so nothing to worry about, I hope.”

According to the Starlink trajectory, it could also be visible on Monday evening at 7.49pm from West to Northwest but will appear dim over the rest of the week.
