A campaign raising funds to help people 'keep on beating' by installing two new defibrillators in Weymouth is underway.

In August 2021 Andy Lane fell off his motorcycle outside of The Waterloo pub in Grange Road, Weymouth.

Luckily taxi driver Ricky Cleverley and pub manager Dawn Axe were on hand. Both CPR trained, the pair took turns to perform chest compressions for more than 20 minutes, likely saving his life.

Since then, money has been raised to put a defibrillator outside The Waterloo.

Now Ricky is keen to make sure that the life-saving device is always in reach when it's needed and has organised a charity walk and pub events to raise the funds needed.

This fundraising campaign is called 'Carry on Beating 2' - and money raised will go towards putting defibs outside The Royal Oak pub on Dorchester Road and The Dolphin pub on Park Street.

Ricky said: "If we had had access to a defibrillator at that time it would have made things a lot easier to do.

"They are a vital life-saving piece of kit and we need more of them in our community, So for that reason, I wanted to do something else to raise funds to get another one."

Ricky will be joined by eight volunteers for an 18-mile walk on Chesil Beach on Saturday, October 14. Starting at Chesil Cove, Portland, at 7.30am the group will be trekking all the way to West Bay.
