A SHETLAND Pony was killed in an attempted theft in Sturminster Newton.

Joe, a five-year-old therapy Shetland Pony, died from its injuries after an attempted theft.

Attempts were made to take Joe from a field in Broad Oak, Sturminster Newton, which resulted in injuries which led to the pony's death.

The attempted theft happened some time between 5pm on September 16, and 8am on Sunday, September 17.

Officers investigating the attempted theft and subsequent death of Joe are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Police Constable Kate Schofield, of the Rural Crime Team, said " I am appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious on the evening in question".
