Members of the Dorchester Trefoil team have celebrated the 80th birthday of the organisation by planting daffodil bulbs.
Trefoil is the adult section of Girlguiding and is open to women over the age of 18, taking part in community activities.
The bulbs were planted on a rainy Monday, September 4 near the community allotments in Poundbury, and will sprout next spring.
Jeane Holmes, a member of Dorchester Trefoil said “We were all soaked but found it fun all the same.”
The project was one of many options for Trefoil’s 80th Birthday Challenge, with a badge awarded after eight clauses are completed.
The bulb planting is just one example of the community work the group has taken on.
The Dorchester Trefoil also has a knitting project for the dementia and stroke wards at Dorset County Hospital. The project has been going for four years now with over 200 lap and memory blankets, 150 shawls and 100 twiddlemuffs donated to elderly and dementia patients.
The knitting project is not limited to members of Trefoil. Donations of wool, and double knitting wool are appreciated by the group.
The afternoon group meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 2.15pm for 2.30pm start in St George’s Church Hall, Dorchester. The next meeting will see Linda Gundry from Mencap entertain members with poetry.
The evening group meets on the third Tuesday of each month in various places, going for meals out or skittles.
If you would like to get involved in the knitting project, or find out more about meetings contact Judy Thompson by email at jct19336@gmail.com or phone Jeane Holmes on 01305 753417.
