WE had friends to stay over the bank holiday weekend.
Although the weather was hit and miss there was plenty of opportunity to sit outside in the garden and enjoy a few drinks and the opportunity to catch up with my friends.
Until, that is, my near-neighbour yet again decided to spend the majority of Saturday afternoon mowing his lawn, oblivious to the rest of the world.
I would have some sympathy if he worked during the week and only had weekends to tend to his garden.
However, he is retired but seems unable to break out of his routine and never gives a thought to others.
We were offered some respite a few weeks ago on a particularly pleasant Saturday afternoon.
The noise of the mower had been replaced by the sounds of conversation and laughter.
It transpired that he had friends to visit and needed a quiet Saturday in the garden to relax and entertain.
Selfishness personified.
