The Melplash Show took place earlier this week, showcasing the best of west Dorset and its farming roots.

Thousands headed to the West Bay Showground on Thursday to take part in one of the biggest events in the county's calendar.

As always, the show did not disappoint. It wowed visitors with its livestock, live displays and attractions, home crafts, horticulture and a huge array of locally produced food and drink.

There was plenty for kids to do, too.

At the main ring, guests were treated to show jumping and the presentation of awards for livestock.

The show's big attraction came from Moto Stunts International performing death-defying stunts.

Meanwhile, there was a variety of entertainment and more than 400 trade stalls selling everything from local food and drink to tractors.

Not to mention the classic cars, ferret racing, sheepdog displays and falconry.

Melplash Agricultural Society chairman, Philip Hardwill, said it was a fantastic day.

"We could not have wished for a better one," said Mr Hardwill.

"Everybody I met, without exception, was happy and full of praise. It truly was a showcase for local farmers and producers, bringing the whole community together to celebrate our agricultural heritage and giving visitors a real understanding of what their local farmers do.

"Our Discover Farming marquee, where we aim to inspire a new generation, was packed with eager youngsters who through the free activities provided were able to learn more about food, farming and the countryside.

"All the attractions around the show were well received and as always the spectacular grand parade took centre stage.

"I can’t thank everyone involved enough for making it once again a very special day”.
