Bridport Carnival Week will return this weekend with a whole host of events to get involved in.
Gill Crumps, a member of the Carnival Committee said: "We have had a very good response this year and we are looking forward to a great carnival."
Darts Competition:
Kicking off the celebrations on Saturday, August 12 at 7pm, a popular darts competition is set to be hosted at Bridport Football Club.
Teddy Bears Picnic:
The following day, Sunday, August 13, will see the official crowning of Bridport Carnival Royalty at a Teddy Bears Picnic on the Millenium Green taking place from 11am-3pm.
Guests are invited to bring their favourite teddy along with them and refreshments and stalls will be available on the day.
Carnival Quiz:
Tuesday, August 15 will see teams of four taking part in a carnival quiz hosted by John and Geraldine at the Ropemakers on West Street.
Family Bingo:
On Wednesday, August 16, families can take part in a family bingo session at Bridport Football Club.
The Carnival Procession
The star of the show is the much-loved carnival procession taking place from 7pm on Saturday, August 19.
The procession will start at West Street and this year, a bit of friendly rivalry is being encouraged as a list of awards has been introduced.
Those taking part can battle it out for the title of Best Pub/ Hotel, Best Sports/ Dance. Best School/ Youth Organisation, Best Club (adult), Best Overall, Best Costumes and most original entry.
The carnival is free to enter and those who wish to take part can do so on foot or with a float.
Crabbing Competition:
The ever-popular crabbing competition will return on Sunday, August 20 from 11am-2pm with prizes available for the heaviest of five crabs.
There are separate competitions for under 16’s and over 16’s and the overall winner will receive a trophy.
Torchlight Procession:
The highly anticipated Torchlight Procession will bring the carnival celebrations to a close on Sunday, August 20.
Visitors are encouraged to arrive at Bucky Doo Square at 6.30pm to ensure they get their torches ahead of the spectacle.
As dusk hits at 9pm, Bucky Doo square will light up.
Firstly, the Mayor’s torch is lit, then he lights those nearby and it follows on, cascading through the procession until the final torch is lit.
The procession slowly snakes its way down to West Bay, where the torches are thrown onto the bonfire and food and drinks are available to celebrate with.
There will also be entertainment available from local band, The Skalatans until around 10pm when fireworks are set to light up the night sky.
