A concert in memory of a much-loved Dorset teenager who took his own life last year raised more than £2,000.

Rock for Riley took place at Weymouth College in May in memory of former student Riley Ellis, who studied music there.

The 17-year-old from Weymouth tragically took his own life in August 2022 and the gig was held as a celebration of his life and to raise awareness of mental health support.

The total raised from the emotional night has been finalised as £2,400, which has been donated to Young Minds UK, a mental health charity for young people.

A cheque was presented to the charity at Weymouth College by Riley's best friend Llewan Matthews, college principal Julia Howe and Riley's parents.

More than 200 visitors attended Weymouth College for the concert and Riley's younger brother Alfie, 13, joined in for a song with Riley's band The Haze on the night.

Alfie also held his own fundraising event in June when he ran 14.3 miles with dad Mike in memory of his brother and close friend Trey Rodd, who also passed away last year - raising more than £11,000 for charity.

Riley's dad Mike told the Dorset Echo that he wants to start a 'conversation' about mental health and let others who are struggling know that there is help available.
