Celebrations were in order at Cerne Abbas Brewery for some beers that tickled the tastebuds of beer lovers.
Representatives of Dorchester Casterbridge Rotary presented owner Victor Irvine and brewing apprentice Danny England with first and second prize in the Beer of the Festival competition at Dorchester Beerex.
The award, which was voted for by the public, saw Mrs Vale’s Ale, which is a complex 5.6% ruby ale, take the first-place spot, closely followed by Danny’s Brew, a 4.4% bitter that was initially brewed for Weymouth Octoberfest as part of Danny’s brewing degree.
Cerne Abbas Brewery co-owner and head brewer Victor said: “It personally gave me great pleasure to pick up these awards, with the added bonus of making Beerex history with 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
“As the head brewer slowly letting go of the reins and handing over control of my baby it is very reassuring to know it will be in safe hands.”
When asked of Danny’s progress, Victor said: “I am thoroughly enjoying Danny’s fledgling brewing career from the best seat in the house.”
The awards were presented by West Dorset CAMRA Chairman Bruce Mead and CAMRA brewery liaison officer Dave Harris, alongside members of the Beerex committee.
West Dorset CAMRA Chairman, Bruce Mead said: “Cerne Abbas brewery has a great track record in winning awards at our festivals but to take the top three places at this year’s Dorchester Beerex is an amazing feat.
"Congratulations to Vic, Jodie and Danny, I’m already looking forward to what they will come up with for next year’s festival.”
