A local youth theatre group has a spring in its step after winning a prestigious award for its 40th-anniversary show.
Weymouth’s WOW Youth Musical Theatre pipped competition from around the South West to take a top award from the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA).
The prize was from NODA's South West Awards for company movement and dance in The WOW 40th Anniversary Show.
WOW members, Hollie Hope, Oliver Cecil, Ben Cecil, Mersey Moore and Erin Purnell, received the award from Nick Lawrence, the President of NODA, at the South West Awards evening in Plymouth.
Six members of the WOW Committee also travelled to Plymouth and Trustee.
Trustee Kirstie Purnell said: "I was immensely proud to be there representing WOW and was so pleased that some of the members could also be there to accept the award."
The anniversary show, which featured a wide range of songs and dance styles with extracts from traditional and modern musicals, was also nominated for best concert or compilation as well as in the adult and youth categories for company singing.
WOW Chairman Alan McKechan said: “We were up against excellent nominees selected from around 300 societies in the South West, so it is really thrilling to have received this award.
"The four nominations are also a great credit to the talent and energy of all involved, particularly Martine who sets and achieves such high standards with our young performers.”
The show was created, directed and choreographed by Martine Burt, who is currently rehearsing WOW's production of Matilda the Musical Jr. for performances at Weymouth College at the end of July.
Martine is the first person to win this award twice, having previously picked up the outstanding choreography award for her 2013 WOW Show.
NODA is a leading representative body for amateur theatre in the UK and this latest award is more recognition for the high quality of the musical theatre that the group has been performing for more than 40 years.
WOW will perform Matilda the Musical Jr. at the Bay Theatre, Weymouth College from July 28 to 30 at 6pm with matinees at 2pm on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30.
