A paddleboarder who had fallen off their board and was having 'difficulty in the water' sparked a response from emergency services.

HM Coastguard responded to the reports of a person in difficulty in the water at Durdle Door on Sunday, June 25 at around 6pm.

Coastguard Rescue Teams from Kimmeridge and Lulworth and the coastguard helicopter from Lee-on-the-Solent were sent to the scene.

The paddleboarder managed to get themselves out of the water.

It was deemed by the coastguard that no further assistance was required.

A spokesperson from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: "It transpired to be a paddleboarder who had fallen off their board. The paddleboarder self-recovered and was assessed once onshore by the coastguard."

The helicopter and Kimmeridge coastguard were stood down before arriving at the scene.

A few hours later at around 8.30pm Lulworth and Kimmeridge Coastguard also responded to another incident on Durdle Door. A person needed to be taken off the beach on a stretcher with a suspected broken leg.
