TWO Dorset holiday parks have pledged their support for nature by providing more habitats for wildlife.
Warmell, located in Warmwell Road, near Dorchester, and West Bay Holiday Park, in Forty Foot Way, West Bay, are both owned and managed by Parkdean Resorts.
The sites are 'reaffirming' their support to the David Bellamy Blooming Marvellous Pledge for Nature - a new initiative for parks to help Britain’s wildlife inspired by the late Professor David Bellamy, one of the UK’s leading environmentalists.
It challenges all of Parkdean's 66 sites to start at least one project to help nature.
The Pledge honours Mr Bellamy's legacy and creates sustainable spaces for nature, and all of the company’s 66 parks have previously been awarded a gold, silver or bronze accolade from the David Bellamy Conservation Awards, which ran for more than 25 years.
To maintain these awards, and as part of the pledge, all of the parks across the UK including Dorset will undertake one of the four wildlife challenges.
These include initiatives to enhance existing water and wetland areas, creating ‘homes’ for wildlife, as well as creating an oasis for special species, designing new wildlife features and involving guests in environmental projects.
Colin Pearse, Parkdean Resorts’ regional director, said: “Our parks are situated in outstandingly beautiful locations, with an abundance of natural assets.
"We are absolutely thrilled to be able to continue our partnership with the David Bellamy scheme and to be taking part in the David Bellamy Pledge for Nature.
"It is a brilliant opportunity for us to nurture and grow the habitats and diverse natural spaces we’re lucky to have on park, and we cannot wait to see the brilliant work our teams will continue to do to support wildlife conservation.”
Rufus Bellamy, son of Mr Bellamy, added: “We are delighted to have Parkdean Resorts working with us to continue the brilliant work they do to protect the abundance of nature and wildlife across their parks.”
