How good to see so many people wanting to use rail transport with our local stations at Weymouth and Dorchester increasingly busy.

Added to the two trains an hour - except Sundays - between Weymouth-Waterloo on the South Western Railway line (SWR), Great Western Railway (GWR) has introduced additional services along its network including a new route direct from Weymouth to Swindon. Most encouraging!

However, I do think SWR needs now to increase some of its Sunday services to two each hour, and with an earlier start than at present.

May I also compliment Robert Potter’s Echo letter (June 3) on updating us on the station at Dorchester South.

In the various deliberations, I’d be interested to know whether it would be possible to re-open the original subway crossing that once facilitated passengers moving between platforms, rather than by overhead bridge?
