A popular Dorset pub has reopened with an 'exciting' new look after a £150,000 investment.

The Trumpet Major, in Dorchester, threw open its doors again on Tuesday, May 23 with the help of local resident Len Watts, who used to deliver beer to the pub for 36 years.

The Allington Avenue pub’s refresh has seen the introduction of new wallpaper, lighting, seating and 'uplifting' colours, as well as an updated bar area.

The new interior has given the pub 'modern twists' and there is a 'cracking new menu' available for guests.

Mr Watts was chosen as the 'community hero' to reopen the watering hole this week due to his work delivering beer to the venue with Eldridge Pope Brewery.

He even brought along his original delivery truck for the occasion in celebration of the reopening, as well as a picture of him outside the pub in 1976.

The dog-friendly Trumpet Major has welcomed a new general manager, Ross Boreham, and is described as having a ‘traditional village pub’ feel with an 'elevated' interior.

On the menu, pub favourites such as steak and ale pie are on offer, as well as dishes such as loaded fries with pulled pork.

On the taps, classic lagers are available on draught while cask ales, cocktails and spirits are available. The pub also offers a Sunday carvery each week.

A large outdoor area allows guests to drink and dine alfresco.

The Trumpet Major is owned by Marston, which owns more than 1,600 pubs across the UK.

New general manager Mr Boreham said: “We are so excited to open the doors of the Trumpet Major and to show our wonderful guests the result of our refresh.

"We have invested over £150,000 into breathing new life into the venue and can't wait to welcome everybody back.”
