A quiet Dorset village is set to put on its running shoes once again as an annual road race returns.

On Sunday, June 18, Tarrant Monkton will play host to the Tarrant Valley 10, a 10km race on roads, bridleways and tracks.

Set in the picturesque Cranborne Chase, the event will start at 10.30am in front of The Langton Arms pub and also include a seperate one-mile children's run.

Refreshments, a barbecue, ice creams and a raffle will be available as well at the run, which has been in the village held since 1985.

Runners can look forward to a 'challenging race' through 'magnificent scenery' through the north Dorset countryside, say organisers.

The event is open to runners of all standards and is a non-profit making with all proceeds going to local charities: Teddy20, a children's cancer charity in Blandford, and The Salisbury Hospice.

Participants get instant results of their times thanks to the new 'chip timing' method.

There is a team cup and prizes for the top men, women, veterans and under 20s.

Last year the run raised money for the Blandford Youth Club and for Ukraine via The Siobhan Trust, which serves pizzas to the frontline.
