A Weymouth woman is preparing to run the entire length of the South West Coast Path in support of her father.

Alyce Rockliff, 36, will begin the 630-mile run from Minehead on Monday 8th May and will run on consecutive days until reaching the end of the coast path in Studland, in June.

The route’s elevation is four times the height of Everest and will take her through Somerset, Devon and Cornwall before reaching her home county of Dorset.

Alice estimates the huge journey will take around six weeks, running between 15 to 20 miles six days a week with one rest day.

She is aiming to arrive in Studland on Friday, June 23.

Alyce is raising money for Prostate Cancer UK because her father has been fighting the disease for five years.

An online fundraiser for the run has already raised over £250.

She said: “I’m both excited and apprehensive about taking on this challenge. The mental game is going to be just as tough, if not tougher, that the physical aspect.

"I am used to road running, so running on trails is going to be a challenge for me.

"I’m also feeling anxious about tackling some of the more technical parts of the path, as well as navigating cattle.

"It’s all part and parcel of the experience and I hope to conquer my fear of heights and cows along the way.

"Since I started running 10 years ago, my Dad has been my biggest supporter. If he isn’t running alongside me, he’s the loudest cheerleader on the sidelines.

"My dad and I always used to run on the coast path so it feels like a special place between us.

"And although the cancer drugs have slowed him down, there is still no stopping him.

"His determination to keep moving forward and to fight this silent killer is inspiring and I want to show the same support he has shown me all these years by taking on the longest & most difficult run of my life.”

Prostate Cancer is a devastating disease which kills one man every 45 seconds.

It is one of the most common types of cancer, with experts saying that 1 in 8 men will get it in their lifetime.
