The bank holiday weekend that will see the new monarch crowned is fast approaching and there is an exciting line-up of events planned.
The coronation of King Charles III will be taking place on Saturday, May 6, at 11am and events have been spread across the entire bank holiday weekend in celebration of the historic occasion.
Dozens of streets will be closed for parties over the weekend, including nine in Weymouth and five in Dorchester.

We have compiled a list of the events happening across Dorset.
Weymouth:
- Coronation Festival at Nothe Fort - Taking place across all three days between 10.30am-4pm. On Saturday they will be live streaming the coronation and will have musical acts from the Wessex Musical Theatre, the Bovington Military Wives Choir and the Dorset Wrecks split between the days.
Saturday, May 6:
- Weymouth Pavilion Coronation Screening - At the Pavilion's Ocean Room starting at 9.30am. Entry is free and there will be a selection of cream teas and treats. The Pavilion will also be lit up red, white and blue in celebration. Just outside the funfair will also be open.
- Coronation Picnic by the Park - Taking place at The Marsh this free event will take place from 2pm-6pm and feature a variety of stalls, live music from Matt Taylor Music, Paul Paice and Slight Return and performances from the Twirl Academy – Baton Twirling & Pom Pom Troupe and Lets Dance. Not to mention a free merry-go-round and bouncy castle.
- Weymouth Seafront Coronation Busk - For one day only busking will be allowed on the Weymouth promenade. From 11am to 5.45pm performers who have booked a place will be performing in prime locations including the Jubilee Clock and Alexandra Gardens.
Sunday, May 7:
- King's Community Coronation Concert on Weymouth Beach - Perhaps the biggest free event in the Weymouth coronation calendar is this concert taking place right on Weymouth Beach from 12pm to 10pm. It will feature performances by Decadettes, Wessex Musical Theatre, Weymouth Bay Rockers, Under the Carousel, That Brit Pop Band and more. The evening will be rounded off with a BANG as fireworks are set to light up the night sky at 9.30pm.
- The Big Coronation Celebration at All Saints Church - This free event in Wyke Regis will take place from 12pm to 5pm and feature family picnics, Weymouth Concert Brass, BBQ, a coronation crown competition more.
- Coronation Celebration at Greenhill Gardens - This musical celebration will feature performances by The 4 Saxes and the Originals. It is bring your own picnic and tickets are £10. It runs from 3pm to 6pm. There is a £50 prize for best royal costume.
- Littlemoor Community Centre Coronation Celebrations - This street party at the community centre will include food, face painting and music. It starts at 2pm and finishes at 9pm with a party from 6pm. It is £6 per person and requires booking - 07990503391
Monday, May 8 -
- Youth Day - This is an event organised by Weymouth’s Youth Town Council, where local artists will be performing on the stage on Weymouth Beach. This event will run from 12pm to 8pm with The Cheeky Tipple providing mocktails throughout the day.
Portland:
Saturday, May 6 - A Royal Celebration at Portland Museum - The museum will be holding a free screening of the coronation from 10.30am to 5pm and will have a range of fun activities for the kids.
Sunday, May 7 - Picnic in the Gardens - There will be a free picnic event at Easton Gardens from 12pm to 9pm. There will be music and entertainment as well as an outdoor screening of Moana at 3pm, and Top Gun Maverick at 6pm.
There will also be a picnic at Victoria Gardens from noon, with music in the afternoon.
Monday, May 8 - The Island Big Clean - Meeting at 10am in Victoria Garden this litter pick and picnic will take place to help clean up the island and beach. Refreshments will be provided at 3pm.
Dorchester:
The King's Arms Hotel will be hosting a weekend of fun, music food and drink from Friday, May 5 right through to Monday, May 8.
On May 6 it will hold a live screening of the coronation in its events spaces and will have live music by Chris Davies on the terraces from 12pm. Entry is free.
Friday, May 5 - The King's Cream Tea to celebrate the coronation at the Dorchester Community Church in Poundbury from 2pm. £6 per person.
Saturday, May 6 - King Charles III Coronation Event on Salisbury Field - Taking place from 5pm this free evening picnic event will feature music from The Decadettes, Laura Sharley, and Dorchester’s schools followed by a beacon lighting at 8pm.
Sunday, May 7 - Crown Street West Street Party - Taking place in Poundbury this street party will take place from noon between Coade Street and Halstock Street.
