IVYBRIDGE TOWN 1

RILEY Weedon rescued a point for Bridport with his fourth goal in five games as the Bees held Ivybridge Town to a 1-1 draw at St Mary’s Field.

Bridport were on course for a frustrating afternoon as James Cox rattled the bar in the first half.

Jordan Ewing then put Ivybridge ahead in the second period following a defensive mix-up, pouncing on Kieren Daniels’ cushioned header for 1-0.

However, the goal stirred Bridport into action in the final 25 minutes.

Bridport pressure failed to yield a goal until Weedon’s cross from the wing evaded everyone, including the outstretched foot of Brad Rowe, before finding the net in the 82nd minute.

Neither side created a clear-cut chance in the dying embers as the points were shared.

Speaking post-match, Bridport boss Chris Herbst said: “It was a good draw but we had chances.

“It goes back to our decision-making and it’s something we have to work on in the summer.

“But we just kept going with fight and desire. I can’t fault them for getting a point. It’s probably a fair result.”

Bridport travel to Holsworthy tomorrow (7.45pm), Herbst adding: “I just want more of the same, don’t let the season fizzle out.

“Let’s go and try and get three points, still have the same intensity. I want to finish on a high and then start (next season) on a high.”
