THE main route through Beaminster is set to be closed for most of next week.
A 35-yard section of the Hogshill Road (A3066) in the town centre will be closed between its junction with Fleet Street and its junction with Francis Mews to allow SGN safe access to lay a new gas service in the town.
Work will begin at 9.30 am on Monday, April 3 and it is estimated that the last day of work will be Thursday, April 6.
Despite the road closure, pavements and businesses will still be open for members of the public.
An SGN spokesperson explained more information regarding the closure: "From Monday, April 3, we’ll be working in Hogshill Street in Beaminster for up to four days while we install a new gas connection to a nearby property.
"For everyone’s safety, we’ll need to close Hogshill Street near the junction with The Square from 9.30am on Monday, April 3. A signed diversion will be in place.
"We plan to resurface and reopen the road as soon as we complete our work.
"We’d like to thank the local community for their patience while we complete our work.
"If you have a safety concern about our equipment eg barriers, signs or cones, please call us on 0800 912 1700."
As a result of the closure, an alternative route will divert traffic via the A356 - A37 - A35 - A3066.

It is the latest in a long line of road works that have taken place in the town centre.
The same street was closed earlier in February for electricty works.
Other recent closures have included the nearby Prout Hill, also on the A3066, and Lyndon Way which was closed to allow BT safe access to provide new overhead cabling.
