A FAVOURITE event in the Lyme Regis calendar is set to take place on Easter Monday.
The annual duck race will return as thousands of bright yellow toy ducks make their way down the River Lim at Higher Mill Flats towards the finish line at Jordan Flats.
Ducks are priced at £1 per entry and can be purchased online at lymechristmaslights.co.uk/buyducks or on the day from 11.15am as long as they have not sold out beforehand.
The race is set to be started by the Mayor of Lyme Regis and Town Crier Alan Vian and supporters are encouraged to line the river banks until the finish point at Jordan Flats.
There will be cash prizes for the top three ducks and a bonus prize for the final duck to cross the finish line.
The first prize is £50, the runner-up will get £25 and the third-placed duck will receive £10.
The event is run by the same organisers as the New Year duck race.
Mayor of Lyme Regis Councillor Michaela Ellis admitted she was excited about the event, and hopes to 'break her duck' of never winning the race.
She said: "The event raises such a wonderful amount of money for charities.
"Families love it. It is a good event, to see the crowds that are there. The kids love it, the adults love it. It takes on a lot of hard work.
"The money that is raised from the race is phenomenal. We need the money for the town, in today's times, it is even more needed.
"I always buy a duck but have never won, maybe this year!"
The proceeds of the event will go towards Lyme Regis Christmas Lights 2023.
They will be hoping to top the number of ducks that entered the race at the start of the year.
A record 2,200 ducks were sold for the annual race which was won by Ross Parker's duck numbered 1949.
The duck broke another record by completing the fast-flowing circuit in record time at three minutes and 30 seconds.
