Mystery yarn bombers have once again targeted a post box in Wyke Regis to create a ‘little bit of magic’ for residents.
The crochet and knitting duo have created a spring-themed post box topper consisting of sheep, daffodils and other springtime nature on a Portland Road post box ‘to brighten up the street.’
The secret artists said: “It's more fun to be anonymous and it's exciting when we reveal a new creation.
“We didn't do it for publicity or recognition, and we definitely don't want any fuss - We did it to brighten up people’s lives and make the environment a bit more fun.”
The creation was shared to a Facebook community group where it was met with plenty of love.
One of the yarn bombers has been knitting for over 60 years after discovering her passion when she was five, when her aunt taught her.
The creative duo added: “The reactions we've had have been amazing and very positive, cars stop to take photos, parents take photos of their children in front of the box and there are lots of mentions on Facebook.”
The inspiration for the topper came from one of the artists wanting to ‘try and make a blossom tree’ which then led on to a brainstorming session to find other ideas that would suit the theme.
The guerilla artists have made a series of post box toppers, with their first creation appearing around Christmas 2021, however it hasn’t all been plain sailing as a special topper made for the Queen's Jubilee was stolen and one created for last summer was vandalised.
They said: "We were very upset and couldn’t believe it at first. It’s sad that people go around doing that sort of thing, we didn’t do another one for about four months after the summer one had been vandalised. But we wanted to try again and fingers crossed, the last 2 have been fine.
“We do them to make people smile, to brighten up the street and start people talking, it's also something people look forward to seeing - We are both creative people who love making things.”
