Flood warnings remain in place for a second day, with Dorset residents warned to 'be prepared'.

Warnings and alerts have been issued by the Environment Agency urging locals to protect themselves and their property amid the warning.

A statement from the service said: "Flooding is expected in this area. This means properties are at risk of flooding.

"Avoid contact with, walking or driving through flood water. Consider activating any property flood protection products you may have." They added.

Flood alerts were issued on the evening of Tuesday, March 21, remaining until further notice, and are in place at:

Portland - Chesil Bank and The Fleet Nature Reserve and Ferry Bridge Marine Services, Portland Beach Road.

Weymouth - Weymouth Harbour, Preston Beach and the tidal stretch of the River Wey.

Bridport - West Bay Harbour and the tidal stretch of the River Brit.

Poole - Poole Harbour and tidal stretches of the Lower Frome and River Piddle.

East Dorset Coast - Castletown, Swanage Bay, Studland Bay, Sandbanks, Poole Harbour, Bournemouth Beach, Hengistbury Head and Christchurch Harbour.

The Environment Agency added that residents should:

  • move vehicles to higher ground if it’s safe to do so
  • move family and pets to safety
  • move important items upstairs or to a safe place in your property, starting with cherished items and valuables, then furniture and furnishings
  • turn off gas, electricity and water supplies if it’s safe to do so; never touch an electrical switch if you’re standing in water
  • use property protection products such as flood barriers or air brick covers.
