A live screening of the Eurovision Song Contest will be held at Weymouth Pavilion to give Ukrainian refugee families living in Dorset a much-needed boost.
The 'Eurovision at the Pavilion' live screening will be held at the Pavilion on Saturday, May 13 and will raise money for Ukrainian refugees living in the UK.
Ordinarily, this year’s Eurovision Song Contest would have been held in Ukraine as its entry won last year, but because of the ongoing war, it will instead be hosted in Liverpool.
The Pavilion screening will be hosted by Weymouth's own 'Rocket Man' Ed Hintze and Weymouth Town Council Chief Executive Jane Biscombe - who is a known Eurovision fanatic.
The evening will starts at 8pm in the Pavilion's Ocean Room and costumes are welcome.
Organiser Andy Dukes said: “As this year’s Eurovision should have been held in Ukraine, we thought that hosting ‘Eurovision at the Pavilion' would be the ideal opportunity to raise funds to create a 'Support Hub' to help South Dorset Ukrainian war refugee families.
"Although these brave and inspirational people have every intention of returning to their homeland, this will not be happening in the near future as the war drags on. Please help us, help the Ukrainians and, thereby in turn, help our local community."
It is hoped that the support hub will cover many of the practical needs of the refugees, including housing, employment, learning English, administrative tasks, applications, starting up small enterprises and more.
Mr Dukes added: “Please come along and have a great night and forward to your friends. In fact, why not come as family and/or friends groups and maybe dress in your favourite national costume?
“I would like to say an enormous thank you to Jay Kavanagh and 'DesignStack' for creating the excellent flyer; to Paul Appleby for his hard work gaining sponsorship; to Hardy IT Systems and Weymouth Chamber of Commerce for their generous sponsorship; to Jane Biscombe and Weymouth Town Council for their support; to Jane again and Ed Hintze for their offer to compere the evening; and to Julie Storey and Weymouth Pavilion for their great help setting this all up.”
Tickets can be obtained from the Weymouth Pavilion Box Office for £12.50 - boxoffice@weymouthpavilion.com
