A councillor has expressed his shock after a teenager was injured after allegedly being assaulted with a pair of scissors in broad daylight in a Dorset village.

The boy, whose exact age has not been given, was reportedly assaulted by another teen in Colliers Lane, Wool, at 3.30pm on Friday, March 10, and it was alleged that an injury was caused by a pair of scissors.

Emergency services descended on the village - police said they had a 'significant presence' there and thanked the community while they carried out enquiries.

A 14-year-old boy from Dorchester was arrested by officers on suspicion of wounding with intent.

The injured boy was treated by the ambulance service for a minor injury.

Police said it is believed the boys are known to each other.

As detectives undertake a 'full investigation', ward councillor for the area, Cllr Peter Wharf (Con, West Purbeck) said the incident was 'very concerning'.

"I know nothing more than I have read but I am very shocked because Wool and this area is normally a very quiet place, it is completely out of character," he said.

"I understand the police and the school have taken very quick action on it but I not aware of all of the details. It is very concerning."

Cllr Wharf added: "If anyone has got any information, please contact the police so they can build up a proper case related to what has happened, and why it has happened."

The alleged assault in Wool comes after a series of other incidents involving young people in Dorset over recent months.

The Conservative councillor said it would be 'inappropriate' for him to comment on the trends until he has seen the specific data.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: "Detectives would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding as enquiries are conducted into a reported assault on a teenage boy in Wool.

"There was a significant police presence as emergency services responded to this incident and we would like to thank members of the community for their co-operation.

"Local officers can be approached by members of the public with any concerns."

The force added that the full investigation would be undertaken by detectives from Dorset County Criminal Investigation Department.
