A four-inch lock knife has been seized from a resident in Weymouth.
Officers from Weymouth and Portland Police found the knife after they visited a property in the town along with representatives from Aster Housing.
The force and the housing company have a partnership and regularly carry out visits to address community concerns.
However, while they were at the address the resident of the property returned home.
Police officers had grounds to search the person and located a four-inch lock knife in their pocket.
It is against the law to possess a knife in a public place without a lawful excuse.
Following the discovery, the police are now set to interview the individual before a decision is made as to how the matter is dealt with most appropriately.
A spokesperson for Weymouth and Portland Police said: "No good can ever come from carrying a knife.
"We will always take robust action against anyone carrying knives, or other weapons, in a public place and look to target those persons we have intelligence about that are carrying knives."
A spokesperson for Aster Group said: “We will continue to work closely with the police as they carry out their investigation. It would be inappropriate to comment any further at this time.”
