One of Dorchester's quirkiest watering holes has arranged a 'calypso coup' this weekend.
Trinidadian Alexander D Great will perform at the Convivial Rabbit micropub in the county town on Saturday, March 4 at 8pm.
Alexander is a vibrant calypso and soca artist with percussion and an 'incredible singer, songwriter, poet, musician, band leader, arranger and social commentator', promoters say.
A weekly slot on London’s Choice FM Rum Shop Kaiso Chronicles With Alexander D Great established him as a serious writer in the great Trinidadian tradition of kaiso, precursor of calypso.
He is famous for his scathing attacks on politicians and general injustice, yet he can sing haunting and beautiful songs.
Alexander also wrote an original song for a Nelson Mandela UK visit.
