THE DORSET and Somerset Air Ambulance has launched a new fundraising event as it encourages supporters to take on an ultra-cycling challenge.

'Race from the Base' will take place on Saturday, June 10 at Henstridge Airfield, with three different distances to choose from: a 30km circuit, 60km cruise and 100km climb.

All routes will start and finish at the Somerset airfield, home of the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance (DSAA) team.

The event is promised to be a 'truly memorable day' and will begin at 9.30am for those undertaking the 100km route, followed by a 10.30am start for the 60km route and an 11.30am start for those completing the shortest route.

With a total of 500 places available, people can take part as a serious cyclist, or use it to have fun and exercise.

DSAA is asking participants to raise a minimum of £50 in sponsorship.

Emma Jones, the air ambulance's fundraising manager, said: “We are so excited to be launching this brand-new event to raise funds for the charity.

“With three distances to choose from, cyclists of all abilities can take part in the challenge. We can’t wait and hope that you will join us for this special event.”

Entrance fees for adults are: £25 (30km), £35 (60km), £40 (100km); Under 16’s: £10 (30km), £15 (60km).

The 100km distance is not open to under 16s and all children under this age should be accompanied by an adult.
