A woman in her 70s had to be freed by fire crews after she became trapped under a car in Bridport.
Emergency services attended the scene on St Swithins Road shortly after 9am this morning, Tuesday.
The woman was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries to her leg - which police have said are believed to be serious but not life threatening.
A statement from Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 9:10 am of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian in St Swithins Road in Bridport.
"Officers attended, along with the fire and ambulance services.
The female pedestrian was treated by the ambulance and is being taken to hospital."
"We do not have an update on her condition at this time."
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire service confirmed that two crews from Bridport Fire Station attended the incident.
In a statement, they said: "The person was knocked over by a car that was rolling backwards and their legs became trapped under the sill of the vehicle.
"Firefighters were able to release them from under the car before then working to make the scene safe."
An eye witness said that there were at least three police cars at the scene and along North Allington, as well as a police van.
A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 09.03hrs to an incident in Bridport.
"We sent a double-crewed land ambulance, and conveyed one patient to Dorset County Hospital.”
There was a backlog of trafffic as cars were already being diverted down St Swithins Road due to a road closure for works on North Allington.
